I love the glitter of this necklace - "Catch the Sun" was just perfect to name it. Standing in the sun it catches all the shine and glitter the sun can give. It measures 12 inches from clasp to center. This brown and gold mixed colored necklace is made from seed beads and mother-of-pearl at the neck. The wire is non-tarnish gold colored.
I call this necklace "Nights in the Everglades" Having anchored out in the Everglades at night, in the pitch darkness with just a glitter of light from the stars shinning, this is what this necklace reminds me of . It hangs from clasp to center 10 inches with the center hearts at 10 1/2 inches. Non-tarnish silver colored wire is used for this hematite bead necklace at the neck . Where the wire is crocheted, black colored wire is used. Hematite hearts adorn the neck.
"Wampum" is my piece that is somewhat different. There is a 2 inch polished shell with a crochet border of silver colored non-tarnish wire. The necklace itself is 21 inches long and has 3 strands of silver non-tarnish wire and amethyst chips.
"Lovely Lady" is a sentimental piece for me. It reminds me of a very dear friend that I met on our "Great Loop" trip. I don't know why it reminds me of her, but it is elegant without being pretentious. It has a simple feeling to it but a deepness of color which reminds me of her spirit and kindness. The name of her boat was "Lovely Lady", and she was certainly that at all times. this is made of amber colored wire both crocheted and the neckwire. The beads are carnelian beads. The clasp of this piece is on the side not on the back The length including the neck wire is 20 inches.
A close up of the hand crocheted wire, and cocoa brown glass beads.
"At the beach -Suntan brown" is what I call this piece. In our travels on our boat we have visited many beaches and this is the color of skin that I find most attractive. The length of this necklace is 10 -11 inches from clasp to center front. Non-tarnish silver colored wire is used for this glass brown bead necklace at the neck . Where the wire is crocheted, brown colored wire is used.

Youth In Beading (YIB) is a youth beaders group comprising of 15 young beaders some of whom are at school, others school drop outs and the rest photographers and jobless. We came to realized that poverty and youth unemployment is a key menace in our land and since in our Krobo tradition every home have a bead maker we can use our talents in beading to create some decent income generating avenue that can enable us get back to school and pursue or careers as well as have a decent living.
THE REPORT
----------
The project document presents the collective efforts of the founder and coordinator of the Youth In Beading, dedicated youths and adults within and outside the group to bring about the desire aspirations of the needy youth and adult in Krobo Land.Ghana.
It covers the plans,mission/vision,objectives and operational aspects of the on-going program to empower the brilliant but needy youth/adult in Krobo society and surrounding villages.
JUSTIFICATION
-------------
The phenomenon of the youth unemployment and rural-urban population drift is very evident in Ghana.,making the country obtain one of the highest ratios of youth unemployment and rural-urban drift in the sixteen West African States. This is due to life being unbearable as a result of austerity measures aimed at resuscitating the economy.
The greatest victim of this drift/youth unemployment is the junior secondary school graduates and drop outs as well as non-educated youths between the ages of 15-25 years.Youth and adult finds no hope in the rural occupation of predominantly bead making and farming and that makes them move to the urban areas with high hopes of securing jobs.Upon reaching these centers and realizing that life is even unbearable, they become stranded and are forced into social vices.
Our aim and objectives is to use the abundant beads we produce in Krobo land to render decent sustainable jobs for the youth and adults in Krobo land.
LOCATION
--------
Youth In Beading project is located on the premises opposite the newly Barclay's Bank at Somanya.Precisely Kadesh House. It is easily accessible by a tarred all weather road from Accra. It has electricity from the mains, pipe borne water, community radio station and all good social amenities. It is approximately 75 kilometers from Accra.
MISSION STATEMENT
-----------------

This focus is aimed at reducing the unemployment rate for school drop-outs,teenagers,single parent mothers, school leavers and anybody that can fit into this project.
VISION
------

* To monitor and evaluate the project beneficiaries
* To use percentage of our sales to provide educational facilities for he uneducated and semi-educated to learn, read and write

THE WAY FORWARD
---------------
Youth In Beading needs the services of willing to help bead stringers, jewelers, wire workers and glass artists to come and train/teach us how to blend our traditional bead work with the western beading stuff.
We seek donation/funding in order to consolidate all our efforts into the establishment of:
Youth In Beading vocational center which will mainly be focused on empowering the youth by training them in bead designing and jewelry making. As an initiative,Youth In Beading intends t start the process through sale of our finished beads to bead shops, salons, jewelry fairs, churches, societies, and other willing to help organizations.
That will serve as a platform in interaction to address and identify our needs.
We appeal to any person/institution to consider our plight and donate in kind/cash towards this project that will save lives.
Any donation you make attracts a Krobo beaded necklace as an appreciation towards what you contribute to uplift the image of we in Youth In Beading.
